November taken from the roman word "Novem" meaning nine, the ninth month of their calendar. Anglo Saxons called this monath "Wind Monath" when cold winds began to blow. Also called "Blod Monath" as the cattle were slaughtered for winter food.
"November's sky is chill and drear, November's leaf is red and sear (withered)" written by the poet Sir Walter Scott in 1808.
In Sid's Piece there are many red, yellow, brown and golden leaves, spindle trees dripping with gorgeous berries, Jays gathering the many acorns. Long tailed tits, (bum barrels) and various finches are feeding on seed heads. It's a lovely walking area, which we try to maintain.
Our working party is the last Sunday of the months, 10am to 1pm. Please come along and give us older bods a hand, tools supplied and a light hearted natter, maybe a biscuit.
