Life has changed! But the stability of the seasons and natural world is very reassuring and can help to give peace and healing for the other stresses we are all suffering.
To go for a walk in our beautiful countryside is to take exercise, relax and even and learn. Sid’s Piece Community Woodland, on Upthorpe Road, is a resource for everyone to enjoy, if you have not been before come along for a walk round on Friday 7th August at 2:00pm - social distancing of course. Bring a notebook and we can note what we see; children might enjoy collecting grasses, feathers etc, so bring a small bag. On a quick walk round this afternoon I saw over 30 different wild flowers and 6 different butterfly species. We will meet at the main gate and may split up into groups, depending upon the numbers.
The very good network of footpaths in Stanton has, I know, been much appreciated. Have you seen the purple, yellow and pink wildflower field margins that have been sown around the edges of some of the corn fields? Vetches, lucerne and knapweed, plants that bees love for gathering nectar, double good, lovely to look at and great for bees!
Covid-19 has made us more aware of what we are doing to the planet. We have lost more than 90% of our wildflower meadows since the 1960s. We must take care of what we have left.
If you need more information about the walk on 7th August ring 259646. We hope to see you then.
